First, Stop the Water

After a storm the order of operations matters. Containment comes first — tarping the opening, stopping water from reaching insulation, drywall, and framing — and the permanent repair follows. A roof that is left open for a week while quotes are gathered turns a roofing job into a drying and rebuild job, which is a different scale of problem entirely. We also handle the water mitigation side: extraction, structural drying, and air movers when water has already gotten in.

What Storm Damage Looks Like Here

The Tennessee Valley gets three distinct kinds of roof damage, and they do not look alike:

  • Wind. Straight-line wind lifts and creases shingles without necessarily removing them. A creased shingle has lost its seal and will leak later even though the roof looks intact from the street.
  • Hail. Impact bruises the mat under the granules. It frequently does not leak at first — it simply removes years from the roof's life, which is why post-hail inspections matter even when nothing is dripping.
  • Impact. Limbs and debris puncture decking outright. This is the obvious one, and usually the one that needs same-day containment.

Documentation Is the Part That Gets Skipped

Whatever happens with a claim, it is decided on evidence. We photograph the damage close-up and in context, note the date of the weather event, record what failed and where, and put it in a form an adjuster can actually work from. We will meet the adjuster at the property when that is useful.

What we will not do is tell you what your policy covers, promise a claim outcome, or offer to make your deductible disappear. Anyone offering that last one is telling you exactly what kind of contractor they are — in Tennessee, waiving or absorbing a deductible on an insurance job is not a favour, it is insurance fraud, and it is your name on the claim.

After the Adjuster

Once the scope is settled, the work is ordinary roofing: a targeted repair if the damage is isolated and the rest of the roof is sound, or a full replacement if it is not. We build to the scope that was approved, tell you plainly if we find something the adjuster did not see, and put the supplement in writing rather than quietly changing the price.

Storm Damage Questions

Promptly — and sooner if anything is actively leaking. Two reasons: water damage compounds every day a roof stays open, and claims are easier to substantiate when the inspection is close to the weather event. A free inspection after a significant hail or wind event is worth doing even if you cannot see anything wrong from the ground.
In most cases in the Chattanooga area, yes — emergency tarping is a same-day or next-day call and it is the first thing we do when a roof is open. Containment is separate from the repair, and it should not wait on a quote or an adjuster.
We document the damage thoroughly and we will meet your adjuster at the property, but the claim is between you and your carrier. We are not public adjusters, we do not file on your behalf, and we will not tell you what your policy covers — that is the adjuster's determination, and any roofer who promises otherwise is guessing.
Be careful. Storm-chasing crews follow weather events, take deposits, do fast work, and are in another state before the first problem shows up — and the workmanship warranty is worth exactly as much as the company still being here. Ask where they are based, ask who does the warranty callback, and check that they will pull a permit.
Probably worth it. Hail bruising is not usually visible from the ground and often does not leak immediately — it shortens the roof's remaining life instead. Finding it early keeps your options open while the damage is still recent enough to be attributed to the storm.
